The Ghana Football Association (GFA) in partnership with the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) would organize a Football clinic for young girls under the age of 15 in Ho.
The clinic, dubbed ‘Live Your Goals’, is an initiative of world football governing body, aimed at nurturing young girls with interest in football.
Young girls from selected basic schools in the Ho municipality would have the opportunity to receive mentorship from experienced Coach Educators at the one day football clinic scheduled for March 18, 2017 at the Ho sports stadium.
Schools selected for the program include, Mawuli E.P JHS, Kabore School Complex, RIIS Presby School, Methodist basic School, Ho Poly Basic School and St. Cecilia R.C Basic School. The rest are, Ho Dome E.P School, Ho Kpodzi Basic School ‘C’, Ho Kpodzi Basic School ‘D’ and the A.M.E Zion School.
Mr. Oti Akenteng, the technical director of GFA said the rationale for hosting the ‘Live Your Goals’ project in the Volta region, was to revive the dwindling women football in the region.
“We want to tackle the areas where women football hasn’t developed very well. We know that the Volta region is important and it’s doing well but it’s not enough” Moreover no team from the region is in the women’s league that is why we want to lay this foundation there”.
The Live Your Goals (LYG) concept was started in 2011 during the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany, and Ho is the second city to host this year’s edition after the first was organized at the Nicholson Stadium in Burma Camp, Accra.
